CSCA Mathematics — which topics to study first

CSCA Mathematics has 48 questions in 60 minutes — about 75 seconds per question. You need both accuracy and speed.

The four modules

• Sets and inequalities — set operations, properties of inequalities, solving inequalities.
• Functions — properties of functions, exponentials and logarithms, power functions, trigonometry, sequences, derivatives.
• Geometry and algebra — lines and circles, conic sections, vectors, complex numbers, solid geometry.
• Probability and statistics — classical probability, statistics, the normal distribution.

Where to start

Start with the topics marked high frequency in our practice tree. Functions and trigonometry appear a lot and support many other topics. Leave rarer topics until your basics are solid.

Speed tips

• If a question takes more than two minutes, mark it and move on. You can come back at the end.
• Learn the special trigonometric values by heart; you will use them many times.
• For multiple-choice questions, substituting a simple number is often faster than solving in general.

Practise in English or Chinese — choose the language you will use on exam day.
